Tombola Of Fun

Show 6: 26/04/2011

Tombola of Fun is back after almost two years away! There’s folk out there who probably think Tombola of Fun is just the oddly named blog of Nathaniel Metcalfe, and they’re right. It is, but it’s also the name of his (my) top-dart comedy night, or at least it was, but now it’s back! I’m not sure who I imagine these folks are who’ve been reading my blog, presumably people under the age of two, who are unlikely to be able to read yet. Or maybe nobody’s thinking that. It’s a new one of a kind special edition featuring: Not one! Not three! But two! Full length comedy shows, and loads more besides. First things first. who’s on?:

Nathaniel Metcalfe: Enthusiast

Yep that’s me. On the 29th April I am about is about to turn 32 years old and I’ve been thinking about how I ended up at this point. This show is a collection of these musings. Over the last decade I have wasted my life indulging my own obscure minor obsessions and now I need to justify it to an audience and myself. This is my first solo stand up show and this will be the first time I’ve performed it. It will be a work in progress show and I may be reading things off of bits of paper and stuff at times, but I guarantee that at least 25-30 minutes of it will definitely be top-notch and that’s a promise. Due to the likely woolly, nature of this performance I have also provided you with another show from another act which definitely going to be aces!:

James Acaster: Amongst Other Things

James Acaster is one of my favourite comedians and one of my favourite people in the world of comedy. This will be his third Tombola of Fun appearance making him the act who has appeared at more Tombola of Fun‘s (with the exception of me) than anyone else. He even turned up to one when he wasn’t performing. Admittedly that was because he was staying with Josh Widdicombe who was on that night, but it still counts. Despite this he does not include it in his list achievements. Last year he was Josie Long‘s Tour Support and this year he’s supporting Milton Jones on his tour which will end with James appearing at the “M.F.-ing” Hammersmith Apollo! This is a preview of the hour show that he’ll be taking to the Machynlleth and Edinburgh Comedy Festivals. Here’s what better folks than me have to say about him:

“A pretty damn promising comic he is too, with a terrific way with an anecdote and charm to spare” – London is Funny

“Nothing short of sensational” – North Yorkshire News

“Inherently funny…the merest gesture can have the audience laughing out loud” – Broadway Baby

“Delightful” – Time Out

“Heaps of fun…he skilfully created a whole other world for us to explore” – Latest 7

“Brilliantly quizzical eyebrows” – Venue

All this and maybe the return of game show “Better Or Worse?”, and the possibility of an actual Tombola, depending on how stressed I feel on the night.

It will also be hosted at a brand new venue:

Positively 4th Street
119 Hampstead Road
London NW1 3EE

This is also the closest thing I will be having to an actual London based birthday party this year, so come for the shows and stick around for a drink afterward. Show time 7.30pm for 8pm.
