Tombola Of Fun

Show 5: 14/04/2009

Let’s Begin,

It’s Tombola of Fun 5 on TUESDAY (not Wednesday) 14th April 2009 at 8pm (Doors 7:30pm) at The Star public house in Archway/Tufnell Park/Dartmouth Park or whatever you choose to call the area in which it takes place. 14th April also marks the tenth anniversary to the day of the passing of the “one man British Rat Pack”, actor, singer, songwriter, genius and one of my all-time personal heroes Mr. Anthony Newley. Newley is definitely one of Tombola of Fun’s spiritual Godfathers so it would be downright offensive of me not to celebrate his life and work in some small way, and celebrate it I jolly well will. Helping me to bring some levity to this occasion will be the following very funny folk:

Danielle Ward

Danielle won Time Out’s Best Newcomer Award in 2006, and took her acclaimed debut stand up show In Glorious Technicolor to Edinburgh last year. An Edinburgh veteran, in previous years she wrote and starred the comic play Take a Break Tales, and co-wrote and starred in the killer robotic lesbian nun musical, Psister Psycho. On TV she has appeared on Mock the Week, Last Comic Standing, and Newswipe With Charlie Brooker. She’s also written for Harry Hill’s TV Burp, and Not Going Out, as well as various radio shows including The News Quiz, The Now Show, The Lee Mack Show, Look Away Now, The Milk Run and The Day the Music Died.

Josh Widdicombe

Josh is making a welcome return to Tombola of Fun following his triumphant set last December. He’s about to take (count ‘em) two shows to this years Edinburgh Fringe. One a stand up show alongside other Tombola of Fun favourites Nick Helm and James Acaster, and the other a sketch show called Superclump alongside an equally impressive line up of funny folk. I for one can’t wait to see both of them.

Four Sad Faces

Jack Bernhardt, Tom Crowley, Rachel Lerman, and Tobi Wilson are collectively known as the sketch group Four Sad Faces. Last year they wrote and performed in the BBC7 series Play and Record and took their first full length show, If You Like… to the Edinbugh Fringe. The show was a big success and the quartet were given their own radio series earlier this year.

All these fine comics, the game show “Better or Worse?”, hopefully some top secret, surprise special guests and much, much more that I’ve not thought of yet, all for just five pounds.

Show starts at 8pm (Doors 7:30pm), but if you get there early you’ll be treated to a selection of my favourite Newley songs.

Feeling Good,
Nat
