Book Club 17

01.22.11 | Comment?

I’ve just read another comic book (of all things). This time it’s Gonzo: A Graphic Biography of Hunter S. Thompson by Will Bingley and Anthony Hope-Smith. I must confess that I do know the artist and writer of this book which was my primary reason for reading it, but I must say it really is a pretty faultless Graphic Novel. It’s very good. I don’t say that because I know them, if anything I hoped that would have some constructive criticism to throw at them, but instead struggled to find things that I didn’t like about it. I’m not even the biggest Hunter S. Thompson fan in the world, it’s just a genuinely fascinating biography. It sets it’s self aside from the Ralph Steadman images of Thompson, and is instead drawn in a much clearer unflashy style, which really adds to the biography/documentary feel of the writing. Buy it here. Highly recommended.

Well that might be the end of Book Club. My main impetus was to see just how many books I read in a year. Turns out it was seventeen (or eighteen if you count my reading of How The Grinch Stole Christmas) which is none too shabby. Maybe I’ll carry it on into 2011. Only time will tell.
