I can remember going to see the first NeverEnding Story movie and being fearful that I might never leave the cinema. It’s far from being one of my favourite movies but one that I often find myself thinking about, not least of course because of the appearance of Deep Roy. I’ve never seen any of its sequels (the picture above is from the second movie) but I did once see Limahl miming the theme from The NeverEnding Story on CITV, wearing a mullet wig (the hair he used to have), trying to recreate his own past, before they showed the The NeverEnding Story: Part III; a film that he didn’t sing the theme to. I remember thinking that that has to be showbiz low point in for anyone. My pal Jon Chandler recently referenced me in his comments on this gentleman’s Flickr. Cheers Jon. Spread the word.

My friend down the road used to watch it daily (she was four, I was five) and used to eat fish-paste sandwiches while she did so. Perhaps it was the fact that I too had to endure fish-paste sandwiches that I never took to the thing. Whatever, still get nightmares about the quicksand scene with the horse.
I soon found a kid round the corner who had a SEGA and whose mum used to feed her crisps and tim tams from the fridge.
Kids are fickle.
