Better or Worse? was the suprisingly popular game show section of my comedy night Tombola of Fun. The premise behind the game is that two contestants have to guess whether the picture on a card of a person, place or thing will be better or worse than the person, place or thing on the next card, and so on. The criteria for what’s better or worse is entirely down to my own opinion, and the “fun” comes in arguing this point with the assembled contestants and or audience, and that’s basically it. The winner is the person who most accurately guesses my opinion on various things. Despite this, it became a poplular section of the show and even spawned an imitation version, when comedy performer Tobi Wilson did his own version of Better or Worse? at a night in Glasgow (see above). I like to think this is the same as when they sell a format of a game show overseas. Tobi is carrying a(nother bad) photo of me, because I appeared as a card in his version of the game as “the inventor of Better or Worse?“. I hope I was better than whatever followed.
Here’s the game in progress. In case you’re wondering that’s a picture of Bill Murray, but is he better or worse than…
…Whoever this dude is? Answers on a postcard, but probably not. And here I am again.
I will be resurrecting Better or Worse? for Hatty and Nathaniel’s Comedy Chat Show Experiment on Sunday 21st February 2010. Come along if you can.
