Todays “Love Song” is From Russia With Love by Matt Monroe. It is the best James Bond song despite Goldfinger being co-written by Anthony Newley. I think it’s beautiful whether you like the movie or James Bond or anything. From Russia With Love was written and composed by Lionel Bart who’s most famous for writing the musical Oliver!, but he also wrote Living Doll, Newley‘s Do You Mind, and various songs for Tommy Steele (alongside Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) star Mike Pratt) including another favourite of mine A Handful of Songs.

An old drunk outside the Effra pub in Brixton once sang the entirety of From Russia With Love to me, having got it into his head that I was Russian. He was rather good and knew all the words, even if they did run together a bit and he fell over at the end.
And then did you get married. What a treat.
