I’ve got through to the final of the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year 2009. Which will be taking place on Saturday the 30th January next year. It’s gonna be a big gig for me, playing in a 1,000 seater (easily the biggest audience I’ve ever played to). It’ll be a real pleasure to play the Empire too, not just because it’s such a iconic London building, but because for one night only I’ll be able to pretend I’m some kind of turn-of-the-last-century Music Hall Entertainer. Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel, Marie Lloyd, Tony Hancock, W.C. Fields and Louis Armstrong have all played there meaning I’m now definitely as good as ALL of them. That’s official. But seriously folks even though I’m yet to discover who the other 13 finalists are I know there were far more that thirteen other brilliant comics that did audition, who I know in my heart of hearts to be equally, if not more deserving than me, but I was lucky enough to have a very good gig on the night of the audition. I can’t wait to find out who else is on. The night of the show will also be the last night of the Hackney Empire until it closes for at least nine months.
