A Winter’s Tale by David Essex is yet another favourite Christmas song of mine, and another that doesn’t mention Christmas at all. Now you won’t earn any cool points by liking this song, or David Essex in general but it is just a very good record. Sentimental, yes, but fuck you it’s Christmas. Jarvis Cocker is also a big fan of it, and he claims it reduces him to tears whenever he hear’s it. It was written in 1982 by Tim Rice and reformed Womble; Mike Batt. You can try knocking David Essex too, but remember this is the man who wrote and recorded Rock On, and if you don’t like that, then you just don’t like music. I also urge anyone who can find it to listen to his version of the Ghostbusters theme. It really is something else.
