Show 2: Aftersmash!

11.29.08 | 1 Comment

There’s a lot of things that are wrong with me. I have neither the time or inclination to list them all now, but I will mention a couple of my bad points:

a) Laziness. It’s a horrible, horrible thing laziness. It’s 4:50pm now and I’ve been meaning to write this all day and have only just gotten around to it now, despite having less on my plate than a workhouse Oliver. In fact I’ll go further. I’ve been meaning to write this since Wednesday before last. Ever since the last show was on. Sometime around that time I decided that I would update this blog every day. Knowing that I’m lazy I didn’t actually think that I would achieve this, but thought that if I aimed to do this and fell short of my targets then at least it would still get updated fairly regularly. Needless to say it didn’t happen and now almost two weeks have past since my last posting. Sorry.

b) Another of my worst points is forgetting to thank people. So now firstly I’d like to thank Becca who’s helped me out loads with the last couple of shows and Beezer B who helped out with the first show and set this delightful blog up for me. I’d like to thank anyone who’s linked to me from their websites, and finally I’d like to thank anyone who’s come along to any of the Tombola of Fun shows so far, or intends to come to a future show. I cannot keep doing it without you, and I appreciate it. Thanks. Tell your friends if you liked it.

Anyway the last show was another real doozy. We kicked off with James Acaster. If you missed it you can find James on YouTube here. Hey, have you noticed how YouTube’s gone all widescreen this week? Anyway I digress. James runs his own club in Kettering. Pop along to that if any of you are in the area.

After James we had another edition of the game show “Better or Worse”. This time I came up with the idea of having better or worse prizes for the contestants. The better being the 40th Anniversary Platinum 2-disc edition of Disney’s The Jungle Book (see above). The worse being a lesser animated version of the story on VHS (see below).

Next up was Nick Helm. Again if you missed him you can find him on YouTube here and here. You can find a list of his upcoming gigs on his MySpace. Nick also runs his own comedy night called A Night at the Dogs. I’ll be appearing there tonight (Saturday 29th November 2008), along with previous Tombola of Funsters Nick Helm (obv.) and James Acaster, and a bunch of other funny folk. Book tickets here or just turn up at 7:30pm at:

The Space Theatre,
269 Westferry Road
London
E14 3RS

Tickets are £3 each (bargains). Go tonight and if not tonight go soon. The Space Theatre is also home to I Think You Stink!, a musical, Rock Opera tribute to B Movies both co-written by and starring Nick. I caught it in Edinburgh and really dug it. Go it see it. It’s on for three Christmas specials on the 19th, 20th and December. Book tickets here.

After the interval Asli Akbay was on. See her on Google Video here (not YouTube like you were thinking). Check out her upcoming gigs here.

And last but not least it was Brett Goldstein’s turn. You can find Brett upcoming gigs on his Chortle or MySpace pages.

Try and go and see all these people either again or for the first time. I really had a hell of a time picking a running order for these acts. I thought that any of them could quite easily have headlined. I think they’re all terrific comics and I was lucky to have them perform.

More soon I promise…
