The day after the night before

Well that all seemed to go quite well!

Hello, I’m Nathaniel Metcalfe. Just realised that I’ve never put a picture of myself up here even though it’s my site, so this is me:

That pic was taken a little over a year ago. My hair is now a little longer and my face a little older but that’s basically still me. Hello.

Last night marked the inaugural Tombola of Fun show. We had an audience of about thirty, mainly made up of people I know, but I do thank you all for coming. That is, if you did come. If not, why not? If you come along to the next one I’ll forgive you.

The night kicked off in grand style with Tom Webb. Tom currently runs (count them) two of his own comedy clubs:
a) Party Piece (which I’ve played myself)
b) Comedy at the Cat at The Cat and Mutton pub in Broadway Market, in Hackney. I used to drink there when I was about sixteen because it was the only place that we could get served at the time, and it was one of the worst pubs in London. Every Friday they used to have Karaoke and a severely disabled girl in a motorised wheelchair (whom the locals affectionately referred to as Turbo) would sing Celine Dion songs. The threat of violence always hung in the air and unwanted singers were often pelted with fifty pence pieces. And now it’s one of London’s trendiest pubs. Get yourself along to one of Tom’s shows if you can they’re good.

Next up was the amazing Tony Law. He treated us to twenty minutes of wonderful stand-up mixing his surreal improv while still saying something about the state of the world. Brilliant stuff as always.

Speaking of Tony Law, his new DVD was one of the giveaways for the big game show “Better or Worse?” (go buy yourselves a copy, you consumers, you!) along with the film poster for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service painted by the master Robert McGuinness.

Inel Tomlinson kicked off the the second half in style with an incredibly slick 15 minute set that seemed to go down really well with the whole crowd. Tom Bell ended the show with a bang, reminding me why he’s one of my favourite comics on the circuit. If you enjoyed Tombola of Fun go along to see his own night Captain Dude and the Dude Patrol in Stoke Newington. It was one of the inspirations for my own show. Support live comedy and all that. TTFN.
